Glauci and Paolo

FORTALEZA, BRAZIL, MARCH 2019

In 2013, on a mission trip to Brazil, Peggy befriended Glauciane whom she met in the airport on her return trip home to the states. In the airport, God also brought to Peggy’s attention, Glauciane’s 9-year old daughter who was reading the Bible. Peggy was so touched by this young girl reading her Bible that she asked the mother if she could bless her daughter by giving her what money she had left from her trip. Peggy explained it was in Reals (Brazilian money) and that she didn’t need it anymore.  The mother, stunned and amused, said “Okay.† Later, Glauciane (Glauci for short) told Peggy that she thought she was a crazy American lady to give her daughter so much money for such a simple thing. They were destined to stay in touch over the next few years, and they would become long-lasting friends.

Fast forward to 2018. Glauciane sold her business in Brazil 3-years earlier and moved to the city of Fortaleza, and now had no work. It was not a particularly safe city to live in.  Once joyful, confident and full-of-life, Glauciane was now fearful to leave her home and was downcast and sad. One Sunday, Glauciane realizing that she needed a change, cried out to God – “God, I’m desperate, I need to hear from you, I need to know what the next phase of my life will be.  I’m a prisoner here.â€

On the Monday morning after she prayed this prayer, seemingly out of nowhere, Glauci got a message from Peggy inquiring about textile manufacturing companies. That inquiry led to a phone conversation. As Peggy shared her vision and desire to start a new clothing line, Glauci began to come to life. It was an answer to her prayer. Glauci now felt that she had a purpose and a drive to get out of her apartment and help Peggy find manufacturers in Fortaleza, and for Peggy, this was an important connection. It was an answer to her prayers as well. God had previously started the ball rolling when in His infinite wisdom, He orchestrated Glauciane’s move to one of the premier cities in Brazil for the manufacture of fitness clothing, and a city with one of the lowest labor costs. Although Fortaleza still has one of the highest crime rates in Brazil, Glauci, now with a purpose in God and answer to prayer, no longer felt like a prisoner in her own city and began venturing out. She was no longer the tail, but the head. She had authority over her fears. And in the coming months, as she heard from God with Peggy, together they began having ideas and divine strategies that would start shifting from what was once Peggy’s dream and vision of starting a fitness clothing company to becoming a reality.

Peggy flew to Fortaleza in October of 2018 to meet with Glauci, and then in March of 2019, we connected again following a mission trip.

Glauci and her husband Paolo were gracious and hospitable having opened their home for us to stay with them. I had not met Glauci’s husband before, but we became instant friends. Paolo spoke little English, but enough to understand, and although Glauci did not speak English, Peggy would translate for me.

While staying at Glauci and Paolo’s apartment, Paolo returned home from work one-night complaining of a headache. Still being pumped up from seeing so many healings on our mission trip the week before, I was confident in believing for Paolo’s healing, and so I asked him if we could pray for him. I first began praying for his headache, and within minutes, it was gone. He was pleased, and so he asked if I could pray for his knee because it was also hurting.  I first asked him how bad the pain was in his knee, and he said it was a 5 out of 10. And so, I laid my hands on his knee and began praying. After a short time, I asked Paolo if he was feeling any sensation. He said that he felt heat pass from my hand to his knee. His pain level had also decreased substantially. I kept praying until all pain was gone. Thank you, Jesus!

Peggy continues to stay in touch with Glauci as she moves forward with her vision of starting a global clothing company (H. S. Global Conglomerate where H.S. stands for Holy Spirit).  God is good!

Glauci e Paulo

Em 2013, em uma viagem missionária ao Brasil, Peggy fez amizade com Glauciane, que conheceu no aeroporto em sua viagem de volta para os EUA. No aeroporto, Deus também chamou a atenção de Peggy, a filha de 9 anos de Glauciane que estava lendo a Bíblia. Peggy ficou tão comovida com essa jovem lendo a Bíblia que perguntou à mãe se poderia abençoar sua filha, dando a ela o dinheiro que havia sobrado de sua viagem. Peggy explicou que era em reais e que ela não precisava mais. A mãe, pasma e divertida, disse “Ok!” . Mais tarde, Glauciane (abreviadamente Glauci) disse a Peggy que ela achava que ela era uma americana doida por dar à filha tanto dinheiro por uma coisa tão simples. Eles estavam destinados a permanecer em contato nos próximos anos, porém depois disso nunca mais nos falamos. 

Avançando para 2018. ————————-Glauciane vendeu seu negócio no Brasil três anos antes e se mudou para a cidade de Fortaleza, e agora não tinha trabalho. Não era uma cidade particularmente segura para se viver. Uma vez alegre, confiante e cheia de vida, Glauciane agora vivia com medo em casa e estava insatisfeita. Um domingo, Glauciane percebendo que precisava de uma mudança, orou para Deus – “Deus, preciso ouvir de você, preciso saber qual será a próxima fase da minha vida. Eu me sinto uma prisioneira aqui!! 

Na manhã de segunda-feira depois que ela orou essa oração, Glauci recebeu uma mensagem de Peggy perguntando sobre empresas de fabricação de têxteis. Esse inquérito levou a uma conversa telefônica. Como Peggy compartilhou sua visão e desejo de começar uma nova linha de roupas, Glauci começou a ganhar vida. Foi uma resposta à sua oração. Glauci agora sentia que tinha um propósito e uma vontade de sair de seu apartamento e ajudar Peggy a encontrar fabricantes em Fortaleza e, para Peggy, essa era uma conexão importante. Foi uma resposta às suas orações também. Deus já havia começado a jogar bola quando, em Sua infinita sabedoria, orquestrou a mudança de Glauciane para uma das principais cidades do Brasil para a fabricação de roupas de ginástica e uma cidade com um dos menores custos de mão de obra. Embora Fortaleza ainda tenha um dos índices mais altos de criminalidade no Brasil, Glauci, agora com um propósito em Deus e resposta à oração, não se sentia mais como prisioneira em sua própria cidade e começou a se aventurar. Ela não era mais a cauda, ​​mas a cabeça. Ela tinha autoridade sobre seus medos. E nos meses seguintes, quando ela ouviu de Deus com Peggy, juntos eles começaram a ter idéias e estratégias divinas que começariam a mudar do que era o sonho e a visão de Peggy de começar uma empresa de roupas de ginástica para se tornar uma realidade.

Peggy voou para Fortaleza em outubro de 2018 para se encontrar com Glauci e, em março de 2019, nos conectamos novamente após uma viagem missionária.

Glauci e seu marido Paulo foram gentis e hospitaleiros abrindo sua casa para nós ficarmos com eles. Eu não conhecia o marido de Glauci antes, mas nos tornamos amigos instantâneos. Paulo falava pouco inglês, mas o suficiente para entender, e, embora Glauci fala e entende pouco o inglês, Peggy traduzia para mim.

Enquanto estive no apartamento , Paolo voltou do trabalho para casa reclamando de dor de cabeça. Ainda sendo bombeado por ver tantas curas em nossa viagem missionária na semana anterior, eu estava confiante em acreditar na cura de Paulo, e então perguntei a ele se poderíamos orar por ele. Comecei a orar pela dor de cabeça e, em poucos minutos, ela desapareceu. Ele ficou satisfeito, e então perguntou se eu poderia orar por seu joelho porque também estava doendo. Eu perguntei a ele o quanto a dor era ruim em seu joelho, e ele disse que era um 5 de 10. E então, eu coloquei minhas mãos em seu joelho e comecei a orar. Depois de pouco tempo, perguntei a Paulo se ele estava sentindo alguma sensação. Ele disse que sentiu o calor passar da minha mão para o joelho. Seu nível de dor também diminuiu substancialmente. Eu continuei orando até que toda a dor fosse embora. Obrigado Jesus!

Peggy continua em contato com Glauci enquanto avança com sua visão de abrir uma empresa global de roupas (H. S. Global Conglomerate, onde H.S. significa Holy Spirit). Deus é bom!

Mission Trip Brazil 2019

This March, Peggy and I will have an amazing opportunity to join Global Awakening on a mission trip to Brazil. The timing is now, and the needs are massive.

The people are hungry and thirsty for God’s touch. Much suffering, confusion, and bitterness exists in Brazil and especially Rio de Janeiro because of the government’s mishandling of the 2016 Olympics. Corruption is at its height.

March 18 to March 26, we will join others from around the globe to be ambassadors of Christ, to do as Jesus commissioned us to do. We will be there to pray, to bring physical and emotional healing and to set captives free.

Biblical reasons for being healthy

What does the Bible say about a healthy mind and body? Here are just a few.   

  1. We are God’s holy temple. God wants us to take care of it.
  2. Having a healthy body honors God.
  3. It’s being a good example to other people.
  4. Being healthy in mind and body means having more energy, experiencing clearer thinking, and a more abundant life.
  5. You can change! What we believe determines our actions.

We are God’s holy temple

Do you know that you are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in you? This is one area that I neglected in my life.  Unhealthy eating habits, including missed meals because I got too busy, or eating convenient foods that were fast but not nutritious, I neglected God’s temple in me.

â€Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, 20 for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body.†(1 Corinthians 6:19-20, NLT)

Having a healthy body honors God

Whether you eat or drink, live your life in a way that glorifies and honors God, mentally, physically, and spiritually. Honoring God also does not mean that we need to be legalistic about what we eat. However, fueling our bodies with proper nutrients and nutritionally cleansing (intermittent fasting) of toxins is essential.  Many of the foods that we buy at the grocery store are being treated with pesticides, fungicides, and hormones. Food is just one source of toxicity entering our bodies.

So, “whether you eat or drink, live your life in a way that honors God†(1 Corinthians 10:31, The Passion Translation).

Having a healthy mind and body is being a good example to others

Be a good example to others. “Look not only to your own interests but also to the interests of others.†(Philippians 2:4)

When we are healthy, people want what we have. No one looks at someone who is overweight, weak and tired, or scatterbrained and says, “Hey, I want to be just like them!†On the contrary, when I want to be like those who look healthy, and mentally and spiritually alive. Are you being an example of someone who is healthy in mind and body?

“Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable–if anything is excellent or praiseworthy–think about such things.†(Philippians 4:8, NIV). This scripture is meant to inspire and give hope, not condemn. When you haven’t fueled your brain with proper nutrients it’s difficult to think about what is admirable, excellent, or praiseworthy. It’s like desiring to drive the full distance, but your tank is only half full.

What you think is what you become. “For as he thinks in his heart, so is he.†(Proverbs 23:7, NKJV).

Similarly, what we eat is what we become. If you eat “healthy foodâ€, you nourish your body and soul. Healthy food provides the right kinds of energy, clearer thinking, strengthens your body against diseases, and prolongs life. Eating “Junk food†and other unhealthy choices have the opposite effect. Unhealthy choices break down the body’s complex systems resulting in malnutrition, lack of energy, the inability to think clearly, and the inability for the body to resist disease.  Unhealthy choices are also toxic to the body, and ultimately steal the abundance of life and longevity that God intended for us.

In the last 2 months, I have made several healthy life changes, and I am already experiencing less stress, more energy, more clarity, better focus, and a better mindset. I am happier and healthier, and people are taking notice.  I was inspired to change “my normal†to a new normal after seeing a change in my wife, although one of her reasons for the change was to lose weight, it was not mine. Mine was for healthy aging and wealth. Yes, I said wealth. A better healthy mind and body has realized an amazing financial opportunity as well.   My future is looking better each day and I am empowered to make it so.

Jesus said, “I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance [to the full, till it overflows].†(John 10:10, AMP)  

What we believe determines our actions

Often times our picture of health is influenced by the world around us. Currently, more than 69% of adults in North America are considered overweight or obese. You may be believing that 2 out of 3 people overweight is okay. Is that the new normal?

I challenge you. Close your eyes and try to envision a picture of Jesus.  I am seeing him as muscular, energized, and highly focused. I am not seeing Him as overweight, sickly, non-energetic or foggy brained. Jesus is the opposite, he is physically, mentally, and emotionally strong even under pressure and temptation. We, however, often make choices that counter God’s pre-programmed design for our body types. Getting our appetites under control and fueling our bodies with proper nutrients is not only necessary, but biblical.

I believe the future will be better than the present and my choices will make it so. I suspect that if you also believe the same and want a deeper relationship with God, you can choose to start a journey towards a healthier mind and body.

Ask yourself the following:

  1. How important is it to you to improve your health and well-being? Write your answer.
  2. How important, then, is what you just wrote vital to you?
  3. Then, what are some areas that need improvement? (e.g. stress, energy, belly fat, vitality, longevity, mental clarity, hunger cravings, appetite control, depression, weight wellness, regularity, endurance and overall performance, immune system, sugar addiction, etc.)
  4. Now, what’s your next step?

Start by consistently declaring truths over yourself as you present yourselves a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, not being conformed to this world, but being “transformed by the renewing of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect†(Romans 12:1-2)

  • I am not who my past says I am; I am who God says I am. (Steve Backlund)
  • I’ve decided to honor God by making my body healthy, and my actions will radically restore my body as it was designed by God.
  • I am determined to achieve a healthy mind and body
  • I will be victorious.
  • As I am transformed in my body, mind and soul, others will see a difference and will be encouraged to improve their well-being.
  • I am committed to making my body healthy, and I will follow through with what I say I will do.

 “Beloved, I pray that all may go well with you and that you may be in good health, as it goes well with your soul.†(3 John 1:2 ESV)

Spotting the counterfeit … whatever comes from the fear of man
